Diabetes Breakfast Mistakes to Avoid

If you have diabetes, eating a bad breakfast is a big mistake. Get tips from an expert on healthy breakfast foods for diabetes.

Mom is still right: Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, especially when you have type 2 diabetes. Your diabetes diet needs to give you a healthy supply of energy to jumpstart your body in the morning.
"Remember that first thing in the morning, you’ve gone many hours without eating and your body needs fuel," says Kelly O'Connor, RD, director of diabetes education at the endocrinology center at Mercy Medical Center in Baltimore. "If you’re not giving it any, it will create its own in the form of stored blood sugar that gets released into your bloodstream — which often results in blood sugar that’s too high."
Healthy breakfast food is also a must when it comes to diabetes control and weight management. “Remember that when your body is fasting, you’re not giving it any energy, so it slows down to conserve what it has left, which is counterproductive," O'Connor says. The trick is to keep your metabolism going all day long at a steady rate. "The simple solution to both of these issues is to eat a good breakfast," she says.
Avoiding Breakfast Mistakes
Breakfast blunders can happen during the week when you wake up late and try eating breakfast while running out the door, or on the weekend when you go out for a big breakfast.
However, the biggest mistake to avoid is skipping breakfast altogether. When you go too long without eating, your body goes into starvation mode. And when you finally give in to hunger later in the day (and probably overeat), your body will grab all the fat from your meal and store it. That's bad for anyone, especially for someone with type 2 diabetes.
Here are some other breakfast mistakes to avoid:
Don’t fly on a sugar high. If you don't have a lot of time in the morning for healthy breakfast foods, you may be tempted to wolf down a doughnut and coffee for the extra sugar and caffeine, but this is a mistake. “Breakfast should be a meal that provides your body fuel for the next couple of hours," O'Connor says. "It should be a valuable source of energy, not just quick energy." From a doughnut and coffee with sugar, she says, "you’ll get a temporary sugar high, but you won’t have done your body any favors, and it’ll wear off quickly, likely resulting in a blood-sugar crash."
Don’t forget fiber. Breakfast is also a great opportunity to get some fiber, which is good for diabetes because fiber fills you up without raising your blood sugar. That can mean better blood-sugar control and fewer calories. Try to get 7 to 10 grams of fiber every morning as part of a healthy breakfast for diabetes.
Add protein for a balanced breakfast. “Breakfast should combine healthy sources of carbohydrates, around 15 to 30 grams, with a small amount of lean protein," O'Connor says. "Think of the carbohydrates as the energy your body needs and the protein as what gives it staying power.” Protein also helps you feel fuller.
Include fruit and vegetables for fiber plus nutrition. Colorful fruits and vegetables are a low-calorie source of carbohydrates. Include them in your breakfast for vitamins, minerals, and fiber. If your diabetes diet incorporates 2,000 to 2,400 calories, you should get four servings each of fruits and vegetables daily — and breakfast is a good time to get started.
Don’t drink your breakfast. Although some people like breakfast drinks, "better nutrition comes from whole foods," O'Connor says. "Juicing is a popular trend, but keep in mind that one large serving of juiced fruits contains significant carbs and calories.” That means you can experience a rise in blood sugar and weight gain from juicing too frequently.
Avoid processed meats and other bad breakfast choices. Bacon, sausage, and ham don’t add carbs to your diet, but they’re not healthy protein choices either. “Bad breakfast choices provide excessive calories with little or no nutrition,” O’Connor says. “Stay away from breakfast bars, large coffee drinks with whipped cream and caramel, sweetened cereals, and breakfast pastries.”
Eating a Healthy Breakfast for Diabetes
Knowing what not to eat for breakfast is only part of the battle when you have diabetes. Understanding what makes for a healthy breakfast food is just as important. O'Connor offers these balanced-breakfast solutions:
For meals on the go, choose a piece of fruit with low-fat or fat-free Greek yogurt or cottage cheese. Or try a breakfast burrito with scrambled egg whites on a whole-wheat tortilla.
To get more fiber in your breakfast, try oatmeal with fresh fruit and low-fat or fat-free yogurt, whole-grain cereal, toasted whole-wheat bread or English muffins, or breakfast wraps or burritos made with whole-grain tortillas.
For healthy and lean protein sources, try a handful of almonds, natural peanut butter, or a slice of low-fat cheese. An occasional egg is also fine. (You can eat egg whites or egg substitutes more often since they don’t have cholesterol.) Low-fat or fat-free Greek yogurt and cottage cheese are also good sources of breakfast protein.
If you want to juice your breakfast, keep the portion to a maximum of 8 ounces. O’Connor recommends substituting vegetables for some of the fruits to create a better blend and a lower-carb beverage. You can add some protein powder, too.
It's also important to check your blood sugar two hours after eating breakfast. "If it’s above the target your doctor has set, you’re consuming too many carbs and need to cut back,” says O’Connor.
As long as you make healthy food choices, breakfast for diabetes can be a chance to get better control of your blood sugar and your weight. But if you're struggling with the right breakfast for diabetes — or any other meal in your diabetes diet — ask your doctor or diabetes educator for some help.

How to Fix Common Computer Network Issues

Computer networks equip computers and other electronic devices to exchange data. It is what allows you to connect to the internet, send emails, print wirelessly, and share files. If they are experiencing problems connecting to a computer network, you can try to fix, bypass, or troubleshoot common issues yourself before consulting a tech expert.

METHOD 1 WINDOWS
Check your network connection settings
1If you recently updated your computer, your network connection settings may have changed. To check these settings, click Start > Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center > Manage Network Connections. Right-click on the connection and then select “Properties.” When prompted, enter your administrator password or confirmation.

Connect your computer to a Wi-Fi network
2 Wireless routers generate hotspots—areas near the router that are connected to a specific network. If you cannot connect to a wi-fi network, try the following:
  • Double check that your modem and router are on and properly connected.
  • Make sure that your computer’s wi-fi switch is in the on position.
  • Diagnose the issue. Click on the “wi-fi” icon (right side of toolbar). Select “Diagnose and Repair.” If there you are notified of an issue, like “unable to clear the DNS cache,” address the problem.
  • See if the network adapter is functioning properly. Log in as an administrator. Select Start > Control Panel > System and Maintenance > Device Manager. Click on “Network Adapters,” right-click on your adapter, and then click on “Properties.” Locate the “Device Status” section and see if your Network adapter is functioning correctly. You may need to update the network adapter driver.
  Fix an intermittent internet connection
3 If your network connection disconnects from time to time, your network adapter may be set to “power-saving” mode. To turn off the mode:
  • Select Start > Control Panel > Network and Internet > Manage Network Connections.
  • Right-click on the connection and then select “Properties. You may need to enter an administrator password or submit a confirmation.
  • Locate the “Networking” tab and select “configure.
  • Open the “Power Management” tab. Uncheck the box next to “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.”
  • Click “Ok."
 Remedy a slow internet connection
A variety of factors can slow down your internet connection. Correcting for these factors may increase the speed of your network connection. Prior to altering any settings, consider the following:
  • Are your network adapter’s drivers are updated?
  • Have installed the latest updates for your computer
  • Is your network adapter is compatible with your router’s capacities?
 Turn off autotuning
5 The autotuning feature automatically resizes TCP windows. Disabling autotuning will limit the size of the TCP window to 65535 and increase the speed of your internet connection.
  • Click “Start.”
  • Type “Command Prompt” into the search box. Hit enter to generate a list of results.
  • Right-click on “Command Prompt” and select “Run as Administrator.”
  • Type the following into the text box: netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled.
  • Hit "Enter."
  • Restart your Windows computer.

Alter your “Flow Control
6 The flow control setting dictates the speed at which data is transmitted from one network to another. This software is designed to prevent a node that can transmit data quickly from overwhelming a node that receives data at a slower rate.
  • Click Start > Control Panel > System and Maintenance > Device Manager.
  • RIght-click on the Network Adapter and then select “Properties.”
  • Open the “Advanced” tab and select “Flow Control.”
  • Locate the “Value” section and click on “RX and Tx Enabled.” Press “Ok.”
  • On some computers, “RX and Tx Enabled” may be listed as “Auto” or “Rx/Tx Pause.

Enable Network Sharing
7 Before you conduct a deep analysis of the issue, make sure that the computer you are trying to connect to is on and that file and printer sharing is enabled on both computers.
  • To turn on "Network Discovery," click Start > Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center. Expand the “Network Discovery” tab > Turn on Network Discovery > Apply.
  • To turn on file sharing, expand the “File Sharing” tab > Turn on File Sharing > Apply.
  • To turn on public folder sharing, expand the “Public Folder Sharing” section. Select either “Turn on sharing so anyone with network access can open files” or “Turn on sharing so anyone with network access can open, change, and create files.” Hit “Apply.”
  • To turn on printer sharing, expand the “Printer Sharing” tab > Turn on printer sharing > Apply.
Override or turn off password protected sharing
8 To override password protected sharing, create identical user accounts for all of the computers in your workgroup. To turn off password protected sharing, click Start > Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center. Locate “Sharing and Discovery” and expand the subsection “Password Protected Sharing.” Select “Turn off password protected sharing” and hit “Apply.”
  Change your Network Sharing Settings
Select Start > Computer > Properties. Locate “Computer name, domain, and workgroup settings” and select “Change Settings.” Find the “Computer Name” tab and choose “Change.” Locate “Member of” and select “Workgroup." If you need to join an existing workgroup, enter in the group name and hit “Ok.” If you need to create a new workgroup, enter in the name and click “Ok.”

 Clear your DNS cache.
10  If you are repeatedly receiving error messages when trying to access a website, you may need to erase your DNS cache. Open the start menu and type “Command Prompt” in the search bar. Hit enter to receive a list of results. Right-click on the “Command Prompt” result and select “Run as administrator. Enter password or confirmation if requested. Type “ipconflg/flushdns” in the command prompt.

 METHOD 2 ON MAC
  Automatically join your wi-fi network.
1 If you have to enter your wi-fi password every time you want to access the internet, your computer is not remembering your network. To correct this, click on the wifi icon in the top left corner of your screen. Click on “Open Network Preferences,” select “Advanced” and choose your network from the list. Check the box next to “Remember networks this computer has joined” and click “Ok.”

 Overcome an intermittent internet connection.
2 If your internet connection repeatedly and randomly cuts in and out, you can fix this issue by configuring your Mac to connect to a 5GHz network instead of a 2.4 GHz network. The 5GHz network has a shorter range, but has less interference.
  • Click on the Apple icon and select “System Preferences.” Click on “Network” and select “Advanced.”
  • Scroll through your list of Networks until you find your 5GHz or 5G network. Click on this network and drag it to the top of the list.
  • Click on the “Plus” icon below the list and enter your password.
  • You may also try turning on and off your wi-fi and/or router.
Correct for slow internet by altering your DNS
3 DNS, or Domain Name System, translates a web address into an IP address and stores the information on your computer. Your computer automatically uses the DNS associated with your router. For faster processing times, you can manually change your DNS to one of two free providers: Open DNS or Google DNS.
  • Click on the Apple icon and select “System Preferences” and click on “Network.” Click “Advanced.”
  • Select your network from the list and then open the “DNS” tab.
  • Click on the “+” icon under the “DNS Servers” column.
  • Enter in an IP addresses for a free DNS server.
    • OpenDNS: 208.67.222.222 or 208.67.220.220.
    • Google DNS: 8.8.8.8 or 8.8.4.4.
  • Click “Ok” and then select “Apply.”
 Resolve home sharing issues
4 Home sharing allows multiple devices, including computers, tablets, and Apple TVs, to connect to and utilize the files in your computer’s iTunes library. If you are having trouble with this function, try the following:
  • Turn on home sharing. After you launch iTunes, enter your Apple ID and password. Select File > Home Sharing. Turn on “Home Sharing.
  • Make sure all of the devices you want to connect with use the same Apple ID and password.

How to Select a Safe Child Care Provider

A great deal of emphasis is placed on finding affordable day care providers for children of all ages. The steps in this article will help you find the safest environment, and safest child care providers in any community.
1 Prior to signing your child up with any child care provider, licensed or not, drive to their business or home address. It is best to visit in the afternoon/evening/late evening hours. Examine the location with just as much care as you would if you were considering purchasing the property.
  • Park your vehicle where it won't be easily seen by the provider or their staff, and walk around the neighborhood. As you walk, listen to the noise level and note the conditions of the establishment/home and neighboring properties.

6 WAYS TO TROUBLESHOOT A COMPUTERS

When your computer misbehaves, it's useful to know how to troubleshoot problems yourself. That way you won't have to run to the computer repair store for every issue that arises. There are a variety of things that could be going wrong with your computer, but you can usually track down and fix the problem on your own.
METHOD 1
Reboot your computer
1  It may seem like a simple suggestion, but rebooting your computer will fix many of the problems you may be having. Press the Power button or use the Shut Down command to safely turn the computer off. If the computer is not responding, press and hold the Power button for about five seconds to force the computer to power off.
  • Allow your computer to sit for about thirty seconds after being turned off before you turn it back on again.
Try to determine what caused the problem you are having
2 Think back to when the computer started having issues. Was a certain program installed, or a change made to the hardware? Was something suspicious downloaded, or installed with a program you got? Was there a power outage and now things aren't working correctly? Narrowing down the possible cause of the problem will make it much easier to determine how to proceed.
 Check all of the cables
3 A loose power cable could be preventing your computer from booting up. A bad surge protector could be the culprit. Your keyboard or mouse may have come unplugged. Your monitor cable might be loose. Checking all of your connections will only take a moment

Perform a Google search for the problem you're experiencing
4 There are countless issues your computer could be experiencing. Problems can occur with your programs, operating system, hardware, or network setup. While it would be impossible to cover every problem in this article, there's a very good chance that someone else has had the same problem that you're facing. Searching Google for possible solutions is often the fastest way to get your computer working again.
  • Be specific with your search. Include the program's name and your operating system. Search for the exact error message along with any error codes. Focus on keywords that describe your problem. Try to narrow it down to your situation as much as possible.
  • Focus on tech forums when browsing through the search results. You will often find the most in-depth guides and most useful suggestions from these sites.
 Install any available updates
5 Updating your programs, operating system, and hardware drivers may solve the problem's you're having. The update process varies depending on what it is you're trying to update.
  • Click here for a guide on installing Windows updates.
  • Click here for tips on installing updates on a Mac.
  • Click here for a guide on updating your hardware drivers. This is especially useful if you are having display or networking problems.
METHOD 2

Speeding Up a Slow Computer

1 Avoid downloading any programs that claim to speed up your computer. These are nearly all scams or vehicles for adware. You can boost your computer's speed on your own without the help of these programs.

2 Close any programs that you aren't using. The more programs you have running on your computer at once, the slower it will run. Your operating system will often load several programs in the background when it starts as well.
  • In Windows, a lot of the programs running in the background will have icons in your System Tray. Right-click on these icons to close the programs.
  • Make sure you save any work before closing a program.
3 Force-close frozen or background programs. The only way to close these programs may be by forcing them to close. There are several ways that you can do this:
  • Windows - Press Alt+F4 to force the active program to close. If Alt+F4 isn't working, press Ctrl+ Shift+Esc to open a list of all the running programs. Select the program you want to force to close and click End task.
  • Mac - Press Cmd+ Opt+Esc to open a list of your open programs. Select the program you want to force-close and click Force Quit. You can also hold Cmd+ Opt+ Shift+Esc for three seconds to force-close the active program.
4 Reduce the number of programs that start with the computer. Many programs will set themselves to start immediately when your operating system boots. When you try to launch too many programs, the startup process can take a long time. Removing programs that you don't use from your startup list will help speed up the time it takes your computer to boot. It will also reduce the general load as you use the computer.

5 Free up some hard drive space. In order for your operating system to run efficiently, you'll want at least 15-20% of your total storage space free. This allows the operating system to write temporary files that will allow it to run more smoothly.
  • One of the quickest ways to free up space is to sort through your Downloads folder and delete anything that you don't need anymore. This could include old installers for programs, downloaded music and videos, and large documents.
  • Deleting programs you don't use anymore can also free up a lot of space. This is especially true with some video games, which can take 30 GB or more of your hard disk space. For information on deleting programs in Windows, For Mac,
  • The Disk Cleanup tool in Windows will scan for files that you no longer use. It can free up a large amount of space.

Samsung Galaxy S8 and Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus

Samsung Galaxy S8 and Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus NOW OFFICIAL; Both will get a release date on April 21

The Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus are now official. After months of leaks and speculation, there weren’t too many surprises at tonight’s launch.
Most people already knew what the handsets’ looked like, they’re basic specs and new features, and how things like Bixby would work inside the handset.
The event itself is still a big deal for the Android space. No one, save for Apple, can pull the headlines (and consumer attention) quite like Samsung. Out of all of Google’s Android partners, Samsung is the most well known and respected.
The company had a torrid time of it in 2016 with the Galaxy Note 7 getting nixed after issues with its battery. Keen not to let something like this happen again, Samsung has invested millions in new R&D and QC for the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Pro.
Analysts believe Samsung will sell somewhere in the region of 45-50 million Galaxy S8 units before the close of 2017. The company will obviously aim to smash these predictions as the handsets go head-to-head with the iPhone 8 later on this year.
According to a report from Korean publication The Investor, Samsung is seeing higher demand than expected for the larger Galaxy S8 Plus model. Citing unnamed industry sources, the report says that retailers have come back to Samsung with positive feedback regarding Galaxy S8 Plus demand from consumers. These retailers are reportedly placing orders for more Galaxy S8 Plus units to keep up with buyer demand.
As a result of this higher-than-expected demand for the bigger model, Samsung has now increased production; it will now account for 45% of the Galaxy S8 series production, up from a previous 40%, with the smaller Galaxy S8 accounting for 60% of production. Logically this should mean Galaxy S8 production will reduce to 55%, although there's no info on how much demand there is for the regular-size edition so far.
Additionally, something interesting has been discovered about Samsung's dedicated physical key for its Bixby AI assistant. Samsung added the additional key specifically for activating the AI assistant, but apparently it has been discovered that the key can be re-mapped to serve other software functions. A video has been produced and posted to Reddit by Dylan Bertwell, showing exactly how users can reconfigure the key themselves.

The reconfiguration is quite simple and straightforward as well; you don't need to root your device or anything like that. Bertwell did this on a display model in a BestBuy store simply by installing a third party app called All In One Gestures. In his example he used the Bixby button to activate Google Now, but there's no reason why you couldn't have it perform a variety of other functions.
“The Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ usher in a new era of smartphone design and fantastic new services, opening up new ways to experience the world,” said DJ Koh, President of Mobile Communications Business, Samsung Electronics.
“The Galaxy S8 and S8+ are our testament to regaining your trust by redefining what’s possible in safety and marks a new milestone in Samsung’s smartphone legacy.”
Samsung also highlighted several key areas that the Galaxy S range is designed to excel at. These areas are as follows:
Premium Camera: The Galaxy S8 and S8+ are equipped with an advanced 8MP F1.7 Smart autofocus front camera and 12MP F1.7 Dual Pixel rear camera for the best low-light, zoom and anti-blur photos with enhanced image processing.
Powerful Performance: Packing powerful performance and connectivity, the Galaxy S8 and S8+ feature the industry’s first 10nm processor, enabling heightened speed and efficiency. It is also gigabit LTE and gigabit Wi-Fi ready with support for up to 1 Gbps so users can quickly download files, regardless of the file size.
Robust Entertainment : As the world's first mobile device certified by the UHD Alliance as MOBILE HDR PREMIUMTM, Galaxy S8 and S8+ let you see the same vibrant colors and contrasts that the filmmakers intended while watching your favorite shows. In addition, the Galaxy S8 and S8+ offer next-level gaming experiences with vivid and superior graphic technology, as well as Game Pack, featuring top game titles, including select titles supported by the Vulkan API.
Global Standard in Mobile Security: The Galaxy S8 and S8+ are built on Samsung Knox, a defense-grade security platform. In addition, the Galaxy S8 and S8+ will offer a wide selection of biometric technologies including a fingerprint scanner, iris scanner and facial recognition so users can select a secure biometric authentication method that works best for them.
Samsung Galaxy S8 Specs:
Body: 148.9 x 68.1 x 8.0mm, 152g

5 STEPS TO SERIOUSLY IMPROVE YOUR NETWORKING SKILLS

Networking is the fuel that accelerates success. Not only is it useful for learning directly from individuals you meet, but the benefits of association and growing your own authority are just as powerful.

How to Start a Conversation With Strangers at a Networking Event
For some of us, the word networking can leave a bad taste in our mouths. Many of us aren’t sure where to start, what to say when we connect with someone or how to maintain that relationship. Although I truly believe there’s an art and science to networking and building authentic relationships, I’m going to distill what I’ve learned over the past few years. So, here is my no-BS guide to networking.

Stage 1: Mindset

Before you think about networking, remove the word "working" from your system. We hear people talking about putting on their "networking game," and I can't help but wonder how many showers they'll need to take afterward to rid themselves of the inauthenticity. It's likely that the people you're trying to reach get approached by dozens, if not hundreds, of people just like you; and it's not difficult for them to weed out the people who are "putting on a face."
The best networking comes from genuine relationships, not a business card exchange. No matter whom you’re trying to build a relationship with, treating that person as a friend rather than a business contact will take you much further with the relationship. So, think about how you would approach a potential friend. Find something you have in common with, keep it light, make jokes, and above all, show that you care.

Stage 2: The destination

Doing something for the sake of doing it is rarely a good idea, nor is it a good use of your time. It’s the old analogy of having a fully gassed car without a final destination to head toward.
As many of you may already know, I’m a big believer in goal setting and focusing on pouring energy into accomplishing the stated goal. What is your dream job? How do you envision your future? What do you need to be doing to be the most fulfilled, happy and driven version of you? Write down what your goal is for five years from now. Then write down what goal you need to hit one year from now in order to get you closer to your five-year goal. Finally, write down what goal you need to hit 90 days from now in order to get you closer to your one-year goal.
For example: Let’s say your goal is to make $1 million in five years. You would need a vehicle, whether that is your own business, investments or something financially viable to get you to your destination. In this case, your goal one year from now might be to have your business launched and to hit $5,000 per month in sales.
So, what would you need to do in the next 90 days in order to hit $5,000 per month in your new business, one year from now? It might be finding the right partner with a complementary skill sets, or acquiring your first paying customer in the next 90 days.
5-year goal: Make $1 million
1-year goal: Hit $5,000/month ($60,000 per year) in sales with new business
90-day goal: Get your first paying customer
Now, it’s time to write down your goals. Yes, physically write them!

Stage 3: The map

Now that you have your final destination for five years from now, including focused, short-term goals to get you there, design your map. Keith Ferrazzi has a powerful strategy called the Networking Action Plan (NAP), which he explains in Never Eat Alone, to connect your networking strategy with your goals.
Step 1 is to write down your goals and final destination (which you completed in Stage 2). Step 2 is to look at the three goals you have written down. Then, next to each of your goals, write down three people who will either kickstart or accelerate your goal. These could be people you are already connected with, who are second-degree connections from you, or people you have no connections to.
Examples of who your top 3 could be include mentors or advisors, clients who will advocate for you, investors who believe in your vision, team members who may be co-founders or key hires, a boss or manager who could propel you to a raise or strategic position within your organization or superconnectors that will connect you with any of the above, to build your network.
If you’re looking to start a company, the three people could be a potential partner, an investor and a potential client. For a best-selling book, the three could be your agent, promotional partners or editor.
It’s important to invest some time doing thorough research to be confident that the three people are essential in helping you accomplish your goals faster.

Stage 4: Building a human connection

Hw do you foster a real connection when you speak with someone -- whether it’s on Skype or on the phone or in-person? Personally, I think it boils down to these factors:
  • Ask insightful questions (to get the other person thinking). You can know a lot about a person by the quality of the questions he or she asks. Tony Robbins often shares that the quality of your questions correlates to the quality of your life.
  • Ask better questions, receive better answers. Peter Thiel challenges us to ask ourselves: “How do we accomplish our 10-year goals in six months?” By asking better questions when you’re speaking with someone, you not only put yourself in a category of someone that thinks differently, but you force the other person to think in a new way that helps him or her grow.
  • Pay attention (as if your life depended on it). This may come naturally for some people, or be extremely difficult for others. In our smartphone era, paying attention is a demanded “skill” many of us lack. How many times have you spoken with someone who is constantly fidgeting, looking around or interrupting your every sentence? By simplying maintaining eye contact, listening attentively and responding with relevant questions, you’re separating yourself from the rest of the pack and are well on your way to fostering a genuine relationship.
Listen. Ask good questions. Repeat.

Stage 5: Superconnecting

The fastest way to grow your own network is to introduce two people who can benefit from each another. As simple as this strategy sounds, it's one you hardly see most people do. When’s the last time someone deliberately went out of his or her way to introduce you to someone after listening to your struggles? If you’re the rare breed that has experienced this, you’ve met a superconnector.
With over three billion people online today, it’s increasingly difficult to separate the fog from the light, and the role of superconnectors will become increasingly important to make that distinction. Here are few of the most powerful ways to become a superconnector yourself.
  • Don’t keep score. This is by far the key difference between superconnectors and everyone else. Superconnectors have an abundance mentality, and they’re always willing to give, connect and share.
  • Make friends, not “contacts.” In other words, value quality over quantity. Put away your business cards, and form genuine friendships with people you meet. I force myself to never talk about business in the first encounter with someone, unless I have to. It’s 10 times more valuable to develop connections with five quality people at an event than 50 “contacts” whose names you won't remember.
  • Connect other superconnectors. Do you know two connectors who could benefit from meeting? Have they already met? Introducing two superconnectors will be the easiest connection you make because: They are naturally friendly and most likely will have friends in common. And you'll not only help others further their goals, but will come to mind for them, for future potential connections that will benefit you.
  • Interview people. This may be one of the fastest ways to grow your network, if done strategically. You could do this in the context of a research paper, book or, my personal favorite, a podcast. I’ve been fortunate enough to connect with the likes of Eric RiesAdam Braun, Jason Fried, Gary Vaynerchuk and others who would have been difficult to connect with had I not started #SKIM Live.
  • Follow-up. This is the missing step we all forget to do. But following up to see how the introduction went, or randomly following up a few months later with no agenda will not only help you maintain your connections, but foster the relationship to a different level. In a world of take take take, being able to show that you care about someone as a friend will put you in a whole different category with any of your connections

Fix network connection issues in Windows 10

Things to try first

Try these things first to help you fix or narrow down the connection problem.
  • Check out Why can't I get online? and try some of the basic troubleshooting steps mentioned there.
  • Generate a wireless network report. This report can help you diagnose the problem, or at least provide you with more information to give to others who might be able to help.
    1. In the search box on the taskbar, type Command prompt, press and hold (or right-click) Command prompt, and then select Run as administrator > Yes.
    2. At the command prompt, type netsh wlan show wlanreport.
    3. This creates an HTML file that you can open in your web browser from the location listed under the command prompt. For more info about the network report and how to analyze it, see Analyze the wireless network report in Fix Wi-Fi problems in Windows 10
  • Make sure it’s not a problem with your cable modem or Internet service provider (ISP).
    1. If it is, contact your ISP. In the search box on the taskbar, type Command prompt, press and hold (or right-click) Command prompt, and then select Run as administrator > Yes.
    2. At the command prompt, type ipconfig.
    3. Look for the IP address listed next to Default gateway. Write down that address if you need to. For example: 192.168.1.1
    4. At the prompt, type ping <DefaultGateway> and press Enter. For example, type ping 192.168.1.1 and press Enter.
    5. The result should be something like this:
      Reply from 192.168.1.1: bytes=32 time=5ms TTL=64
      Reply from 192.168.1.1: bytes=32 time=5ms TTL=64
      Reply from 192.168.1.1: bytes=32 time=5ms TTL=64
      Reply from 192.168.1.1: bytes=32 time=5ms TTL=64
      Ping statistics for 192.168.1.1: Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss), Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds: Minimum = 4ms, Maximum = 5ms, Average = 4ms
If the ping is successful and you see results similar to the results above, but can’t connect to the Internet on your PC, there may be a problem with your modem or Internet service provider (ISP).

Update the network adapter driver

An outdated or incompatible network adapter driver can cause connection problems. If you recently upgraded toWindows 10, it's possible that the current driver was designed for a previous version of Windows. Check to see if an updated driver is available.
  1. In the search box on the taskbar, type Device Manager, and then select Device Manager from the list of results.
  2. In Device Manager, select Network adapters > the network adapter name.
  3. Press and hold (or right-click) the network adapter, and then select Update Driver Software > Search automatically for updated driver software. Follow the steps, then select Close.
  4. After installing the updated driver, select the Start  button > Power > Restart if you're asked to restart, and see if that fixes the connection issue.
If Windows can’t find a new driver for your network adapter, visit the PC manufacturer’s website and download the latest network adapter driver from there. If your PC can't connect to the Internet, you'll need to download a driver on a different PC and save it to a USB flash drive, so you can manually install the driver on your PC. You’ll need to know the PC manufacturer and model name or number.

To manually install the network adapter driver

Do one of the following, depending on what kind of file you downloaded from the PC manufacturer’s website:
  • If you downloaded an executable (.exe) file, just double-click the file to run it and install the drivers. That should be all you need to do.
  • If you downloaded individual files, and at least one file has a .inf file name extension and another has a .sys extension, do the following:
    1. In the search box on the taskbar, type Device Manager, and then select Device Manager from the list of results.
    2. In Device Manager, select Network adapters > the network adapter name. (If it’s not listed there, check inOther devices.)
    3. Press and hold (or right-click) the network adapter, and then select Update Driver Software > Browse my computer for driver software.
    4. Select Browse > select the location where the driver files are stored > OK.
    5. Select Next > follow the steps to install the driver > Close.
    6. After you've updated the driver, select the Start  button > Power > Restart if you're asked to restart, and see if that fixes the connection issue.

Roll back the network adapter driver

If you were connected before and recently installed a new network adapter driver, rolling back your driver to a previous version might help.
  1. In the search box on the taskbar, type Device Manager, and then select Device Manager from the list of results.
  2. In Device Manager, select Network adapters  > the network adapter name.
  3. Press and hold (or right-click) the network adapter, and then select Properties.
  4. In Properties, select the Driver tab, select Roll back driver, then follow the steps.
  5. If the button is unavailable, that means there's no driver to roll back to.
  6. After rolling back to the previous version of the driver, select the Start  button > Power > Restart if you're asked to restart, and see if that fixes the connection issue.

Run the Network troubleshooter followed by networking commands

The Network troubleshooter can help diagnose and fix common connection problems. Using this troubleshooter, then running some networking commands afterwards if needed, can help get you connected.

To run the Network troubleshooter

  1. In the search box on the taskbar, type Network troubleshooter, and then select Identify and repair network problems from the list of results.
  2. Follow the steps in the troubleshooter and see if that fixes the problem.
If that doesn’t fix your connection problem, try these things:
  • Reset the TCP/IP stack
  • Release the IP address
  • Renew the IP address
  • Flush and reset the DNS client resolver cache

To run these networking commands in a command prompt window

  1. In the search box on the taskbar, type Command prompt, press and hold (or right-click) Command prompt, and then select Run as administrator > Yes.
  2. At the command prompt, run the following commands in the listed order, and then check to see if that fixes your connection problem:
    • Type netsh winsock reset and press Enter.
    • Type netsh int ip reset and press Enter.
    • Type ipconfig /release and press Enter.
    • Type ipconfig /renew and press Enter.
    • Type ipconfig /flushdns and press Enter.

Temporarily turn off firewalls

Sometimes firewall software might prevent you from getting connected. You can see if the connection issue is caused by a firewall by turning it off temporarily and then trying to visit a website you trust.
The steps to turn off a firewall depend on the firewall software you’re using. Check the documentation for your firewall software to learn how to turn it off. Make sure you turn it back on as soon as you can. Not having a firewall turned on makes your PC more vulnerable to hackers, worms, or viruses.
If you have trouble turning off your firewall, do the following to turn off all firewall software that's running on your PC. Again, make sure you turn your firewall back on as soon as you can.

To turn off all firewalls

  1. In the search box on the taskbar, type Command prompt, press and hold (or right-click) Command prompt, and then select Run as administrator > Yes.
  2. At the command prompt, type netsh advfirewall set allprofiles state off, and then press Enter.
  3. Open your web browser and visit a website you trust and see if you can connect to it.
  4. To turn on all firewalls you might have installed, at the command prompt, type netsh advfirewall set allprofiles state on, and then press Enter.
If you find the firewall software is causing the connection issues, contact the software manufacturer or visit their website to check and see if updated software is available.

Temporarily turn off any antivirus or malware-prevention software

Sometimes antivirus or malware-prevention software might prevent you from getting connected. You can see if the connection issue is caused by antivirus and malware-prevention software by turning it off temporarily and then trying to visit a website you trust. If you find it is causing the connection issues, contact the software manufacturer or visit their website to see if updated software is available.
The steps to turn off antivirus or malware-prevention software depend on the software you’re using. Check the documentation for your software to learn how to turn it off. Make sure you turn it back on as soon as possible. Not having antivirus or malware-prevention software turned on makes your PC more vulnerable to hackers, worms, or viruses.
If you’re not sure what antivirus or malware-prevention software program you have installed, Windows might be able to tell you.

To find out what antivirus or malware-prevention software is installed

  1. In the search box on the taskbar, type System and security, and then select Review your computer’s status and resolve issues.
  2. Select the down arrow next to Security.
  3. If Windows can detect your antivirus software, it's listed under Virus protection. For malware-prevention software, look under Spyware and unwanted software protection.
  4. If the antivirus or malware-prevention software is on, check the documentation for that software to learn how to turn it off.
Make sure you turn your antivirus or malware-prevention software back on as soon as you can to make sure your PC is better protected.

Uninstall the network adapter driver and restart

If the previous steps didn’t work, try to uninstall the network adapter driver, and then restart your computer and have Windows automatically install the latest driver. Consider this approach if your network connection stopped working properly after a recent update.
Before uninstalling, make sure you have drivers available as a backup. Visit the PC manufacturer’s website and download the latest network adapter driver from there. If your PC can't connect to the Internet, you'll need to download a driver on a different PC and save it to a USB flash drive, so you can install the driver on your PC. You’ll need to know the PC manufacturer and model name or number.
  1. In the search box on the taskbar, type Device Manager, and then select Device Manager from the list of results.
  2. In Device Manager, select Network adapters > the network adapter name.
  3. Press and hold (or right-click) the network adapter, and then select Uninstall > Delete the driver software for this device check box > OK to confirm you want to uninstall it.
  4. After uninstalling the driver, select the Start  button > Power > Restart.
  5. After your PC restarts, Windows will automatically look for and install the network adapter driver. Check to see if that fixes your connection problem. If Windows doesn't automatically install a driver, try to install the backup driver you saved before uninstalling.

Use network reset to reinstall network devices

Using network reset should be the last step you try. Consider using it if the steps above don’t help to get you connected.
This can help solve connection problems you might have after upgrading from a previous version of Windows to Windows 10, as well as fix problems where you can connect to the Internet, but not to shared network drives. It removes any network adapters you have installed and the settings for them. After your PC restarts, any network adapters are reinstalled, and the settings for them are set to the defaults.
  1. Select the Start  button, then select Settings  > Network & Internet > Status > Network reset.
  2. On the Network reset screen, select Reset now > Yes to confirm.
Wait for your PC to restart and see if that fixes the problem.
