Samsung Galaxy S8 and Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus

Samsung Galaxy S8 and Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus NOW OFFICIAL; Both will get a release date on April 21

The Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus are now official. After months of leaks and speculation, there weren’t too many surprises at tonight’s launch.
Most people already knew what the handsets’ looked like, they’re basic specs and new features, and how things like Bixby would work inside the handset.
The event itself is still a big deal for the Android space. No one, save for Apple, can pull the headlines (and consumer attention) quite like Samsung. Out of all of Google’s Android partners, Samsung is the most well known and respected.
The company had a torrid time of it in 2016 with the Galaxy Note 7 getting nixed after issues with its battery. Keen not to let something like this happen again, Samsung has invested millions in new R&D and QC for the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Pro.
Analysts believe Samsung will sell somewhere in the region of 45-50 million Galaxy S8 units before the close of 2017. The company will obviously aim to smash these predictions as the handsets go head-to-head with the iPhone 8 later on this year.
According to a report from Korean publication The Investor, Samsung is seeing higher demand than expected for the larger Galaxy S8 Plus model. Citing unnamed industry sources, the report says that retailers have come back to Samsung with positive feedback regarding Galaxy S8 Plus demand from consumers. These retailers are reportedly placing orders for more Galaxy S8 Plus units to keep up with buyer demand.
As a result of this higher-than-expected demand for the bigger model, Samsung has now increased production; it will now account for 45% of the Galaxy S8 series production, up from a previous 40%, with the smaller Galaxy S8 accounting for 60% of production. Logically this should mean Galaxy S8 production will reduce to 55%, although there's no info on how much demand there is for the regular-size edition so far.
Additionally, something interesting has been discovered about Samsung's dedicated physical key for its Bixby AI assistant. Samsung added the additional key specifically for activating the AI assistant, but apparently it has been discovered that the key can be re-mapped to serve other software functions. A video has been produced and posted to Reddit by Dylan Bertwell, showing exactly how users can reconfigure the key themselves.

The reconfiguration is quite simple and straightforward as well; you don't need to root your device or anything like that. Bertwell did this on a display model in a BestBuy store simply by installing a third party app called All In One Gestures. In his example he used the Bixby button to activate Google Now, but there's no reason why you couldn't have it perform a variety of other functions.
“The Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ usher in a new era of smartphone design and fantastic new services, opening up new ways to experience the world,” said DJ Koh, President of Mobile Communications Business, Samsung Electronics.
“The Galaxy S8 and S8+ are our testament to regaining your trust by redefining what’s possible in safety and marks a new milestone in Samsung’s smartphone legacy.”
Samsung also highlighted several key areas that the Galaxy S range is designed to excel at. These areas are as follows:
Premium Camera: The Galaxy S8 and S8+ are equipped with an advanced 8MP F1.7 Smart autofocus front camera and 12MP F1.7 Dual Pixel rear camera for the best low-light, zoom and anti-blur photos with enhanced image processing.
Powerful Performance: Packing powerful performance and connectivity, the Galaxy S8 and S8+ feature the industry’s first 10nm processor, enabling heightened speed and efficiency. It is also gigabit LTE and gigabit Wi-Fi ready with support for up to 1 Gbps so users can quickly download files, regardless of the file size.
Robust Entertainment : As the world's first mobile device certified by the UHD Alliance as MOBILE HDR PREMIUMTM, Galaxy S8 and S8+ let you see the same vibrant colors and contrasts that the filmmakers intended while watching your favorite shows. In addition, the Galaxy S8 and S8+ offer next-level gaming experiences with vivid and superior graphic technology, as well as Game Pack, featuring top game titles, including select titles supported by the Vulkan API.
Global Standard in Mobile Security: The Galaxy S8 and S8+ are built on Samsung Knox, a defense-grade security platform. In addition, the Galaxy S8 and S8+ will offer a wide selection of biometric technologies including a fingerprint scanner, iris scanner and facial recognition so users can select a secure biometric authentication method that works best for them.
